Front Yard:
Our property is now recognized as an official Certified Wildlife Habitat® site with the National Wildlife Federation!
Our Certified Wildlife Habitat® ID is: 289442
Its important to me that our yard be an oasis for us, the animals in our care, as well as a haven that draws in wild bees, butterflies and birds and supports the pollinator bees we raise. We use no harmful chemicals in our yard to protect their safety, and we keep several water stations on the property for strays, and wild animals alike as well as bee and insect waterers. Bruce and I both enjoy working with natural materials so nothing goes to waste here.
If your interested in raising pollinator bees, visit this page right here on our website: Project: Save The Bees!

To the left and above is a special species of Black Eyed Susan that we bought at Watson's Nursery. It grew to over 7 feet tall!

A safe way to provide water for thirsty bees and other insects. The marbles keep them from drowning.

We grow a lot of greens each year to help feed the animals, along with tomatoes, strawberries and a few other things.

We get these HUGE loads of wood chips free of charge from chipdrop.com. It makes a wonderful ground cover in the yard.

This is a gate Bruce is building, made out of a dismantled metal plant stand he took apart. Bruce welded it together, and I had him add the blue sun figurine on top. The gate has since been painted black and we will be in-laying colored glass in the gate panels below.
Andy and Chloe bunnies love their time outside in the yard!

I created a bee waterer on this side of the yard as well using colored glass balls in a shallow dish on the stump...all sorts of insects come for a drink here!
Side Yard:

This lovely bird cage was given to us by Pastor Melanie from her flower shop.

We have been working on a new project this year. The side yard used to be nothing but basically storage and a catch-all for whatever we didn't have room for in the shed. We turned it into a lovely sitting area this year. We are so enjoying spending our days and evenings out there. A new fence went up this Spring, we laid wood chips as a substrate, it looks nice, smells wonderful and best of all, its low maintenance. Added lots of potted plants here and there, a small tree, and some solar lighting along the fence line. Still a work in progress, we're still coming up with what else we'd like to do out there...maybe a water feature or a rock garden.

It will take a bit of time to gain some size, but this little Japanese maple looks really nice over in the corner of the new sitting area in our side yard.

The huge cherry tree was trimmed way back this year and we were left with hundreds of branches to have hauled away. Bruce decided to get creative and use them in the yard instead....I love this wall and archway he built!

Two varieties of kale

We grow several varieties of lettuce every year

This is Purslane. It grows wild in our yard...its very good in salads and the turtles love it to!

Above you see some of the filled mason bee tubes, which have been moved, along with the bee block tray into a protective netted bag until Fall, at which time the cocoons will be harvested and stored for the winter months. On the far right is the Leafcutter bee house, ready and waiting for our order of 200 cocoons to arrive the first week in July. To see more of our bees, go to our page "Project: Save The Bees"
