In Loving Memory of Katie Ann.....

17 years ago I answered an ad for a litter of puppies available in Lakewood. I went to the ladies house, sat down on her kitchen floor and watched all the adorable puppies bouncing all over the place, wondering how on earth I would ever be able to pick just one. Slowly, one of the little girls crept up to me, and crawled up onto my lap. She didn't want to play, she just wanted to snuggle. She was the one; I had gone to choose a puppy, but the puppy had chosen me. I took that sweet bundle of love home and named her Katie Ann.

Always the great story teller, she’d look at me at times, cock her head to one side and just bark and bark at me……I’d say “Tell me a story Katie” and she did. I’d say “what happened next”? And she’d fill me in on ALL the details, her face as animated as anything I’d ever seen. Story telling was serious business to Katie Ann.

Katie never had babies of her own, but she “mothered” so many of the rescues who came thru here. It didn’t matter what they were; kittens, hedgehogs, baby possums, bunnies, birds, she wanted to take care of them all, and she did. She never bit or even growled at any living being her entire life.

After valiantly struggling with liver disease for the past 2 years, we had to say goodbye to our baby. On the afternoon of June 5th, 2013, she died in my arms within seconds of being injected with the medication that was given to end her sweet life. 17 years of living with that angel has come to an end. Her urn sits next to me as I type this, and I have no doubt that her spirit is still near by. It is with all this love we have for her, and all animals, that we finally put a name to our rescue. We have named it:
